Toy Like Me

UK parents who have a special needs child has launched the Toy Like Me campaign by using the hashtag to get dolls created to where they closely resembled their child’s physical disability. Also, the hashtag was followed by pictures of toys with accessories that resemble the different range of disabilities. There are dolls that symbolize children who are in wheelchairs, have guide dogs, use a cane, and who wear hearing aids.

The toy company, Makies, responded to the hashtag a few days later and launched a “Dolls With Disabilities” line which utilizes 3D printing to create the different forms of dolls.

I think it is such a great and unique idea. This new toy line represents every child, no matter if they are able- bodied or disabled, as beautiful, in every way, shape, and form. It allows these kids to think of themselves as part of society and not as outsiders. I completely support this line of toys for the disabled community. It is going to be successful.
